National selection committee will select the team for first test against Australia. There are few reason which have made the meeting very crucial. First, it is a new selection panel. The other reason is inclusion of Saurav Ganguly. The southpaw's future hangs in balance and if he fails to make it, it might be the end of his career. Lets hope that the selection panel select the best possible team that can click against the world champions. The Krishnamachari Srikkanth-led committee is of the view that it will go by the board's guidelines; they are also expected to be briefed by the new BCCI chief Shashank Manohar before they head into the meeting. Their decision on Ganguly will reflect on what policy they adopt; whether to take ahead the work done by their predecessors or to do an about-turn and fall back on experience since the youngsters are still quite a distance from these classy players.

Harbhajan the main threat : Hayden
Matthew Hayden may not be among the big admirers of Harbhajan Singh but the Australian opener has no qualms in admitting that the feisty Indian off-spinner would pose main threat to his side during their four-match Test series beginning October 9. Hayden had famously called Harbhajan "obnoxious weed" during India controversy-ridden tour Down Under early this year prompting the Indian off-spinner to label the Australian opener one of the most reviled men in world cricket. Now among the four players from the 15-man Australian squad with Test experience in India, Hayden said he was all geared up to renew the on-field rivalry with Harbhajan on slow Indian pitches. "Having played over there and played well over there, I think I'm going to be the obvious target," Hayden said before leaving for India. "Harbhajan is very competitive, especially in his own environment. He's a big threat to our side. He's skillful and has got some weapons in conditions that will favour him. My job will be to combat that so for me it's a battle I'm really looking forward to," Hayden was quoted as saying by ' Courier Mail '. "To be part of the number cricket side in the world is always a big challenge. I expect no mercy from the Indians but that's why I'll enjoy this series. I'll be right in the thick of it," added Hayden who toured India in 2001.

SAURAV GANGULY
Ganguly resumed practice this morning and worked hard at the nets after an hour long stint in thegym.
''He came early in the morning, waited patiently for 20 minutes for all of us to turn up and then started practice. He had some weight traning in the gym for over one hour. Then he had some practice at the nets with the Bengal Ranji probables,'' trainer Chinmoy Roy said.
''He seems very determined to get back into the Indian team. From his body language it is clear that he is not thinking of calling it quits at the moment. Ganguly told me that he'll henceforth practice regularly as it feels bad not practising,'' he added.
Ganguly has been ignored by the selectors for the Rest of india squad for the Irani tropy. But the elegant left-hander is hoping to make another comeback for the home series against Australia next month.
